Navigation on Dartmoor
Dartmoor National Park provides superb terrain for developing your navigation skills. The moor is 954 square kilometres making it England’s largest, wildest expanse of open country. It has 18 rivers flowing through it and contains over 160 tors (a boulderer’s delight for the climbers out there!). Not only that, but it has an incredible history with over a thousand ancient monuments and the largest concentration of Bronze Age remains in the country!
With rolling hills interspersed with rocky tors, ancient features, streams to negotiate and infamous bogs to avoid, Dartmoor offers the ideal learning environment. Whether you’re new to hill walking and want to know the basics of how to use a map and compass, or if you need to perfect your navigation skills ready for an assessment, we can work with you to achieve your ambitions.
The VIXON team pride ourselves on a taking a calm, progressive approach to navigation training. We take time to make sure the basic skills are understood and use games and exercises to consolidate your learning. Operating in small groups or on a 1:1 basis also means that you can really focus on your skills and it reduces the pressure that some people feel when they’re navigating in front of others.
